“My little April, one year one month, complete trisomy 18, diagnosed prenatally at 16 weeks. She has heart disease (ventricular septal defect, atrial septal defect, pulmonary stenosis and patent ductus arteriosus), umbilical hernia, right palpebral ptosis. Currently she eats by suction, has not required hospitalizations. She is a baby that smiles, eats, cries, like any healthy baby. We have found a medical team that agrees to operate on her heart. A few days ago she was scheduled for surgery, however the hospital managers suspended the surgery because they’re considering that she undergoes a bioethics session to see if “it is worth it”, worth “spending the resources”. We are waiting for the committee to resolve this situation. I have requested through a letter that my baby not be denied care but I have started looking for places where children like my baby are operated on.”
